FORTIFIED & wind mitigation

The roof your insurance company wants you to have.

Sealed deck, ring-shank nails, stronger edges. A few hundred dollars of upgrades at install time can earn premium credits every year and keep the roof on in the storm that matters.

Three ways to build back stronger

Pick the level that fits your home and your carrier.

01

Code-plus details on every roof

Synthetic underlayment, sealed penetrations and proper edge metal are standard on every Miller roof, and they already improve your wind mitigation report.

02

Sealed deck and enhanced nailing

Taped or self-adhered deck seams keep water out even if shingles blow off. Ring-shank nails on a tight pattern keep the deck on the rafters.

03

FORTIFIED Roof designation

We build to the IBHS standard and coordinate with a certified evaluator so you receive the official designation your carrier recognizes.

Why this matters in Northeast Florida

From the Beaches to Nassau County, homes sit in design wind speeds that test every nail and every seam. The difference between a roof that loses a few shingles and a roof that lets water into the living room is almost always the deck seal and the attachment, not the shingle brand.

Insurers know this. A current wind mitigation inspection that shows secondary water resistance, proper deck attachment and a code-compliant covering is one of the few things a Florida homeowner can do to lower a premium instead of watching it climb.

When we replace your roof, tell us you want the wind mitigation features. We build them in, photograph them before they are covered, and hand you the documentation for the inspector.

Questions

FORTIFIED, explained.

What is a FORTIFIED Roof?

A construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). It adds a sealed roof deck, ring-shank nails on a tighter pattern, and stronger edge and attachment details so the roof stays on and the house stays dry in high wind. A certified evaluator inspects the work and issues the designation.

What is a wind mitigation inspection?

A Florida inspection (form OIR-B1-1802) that records your home’s wind-resistant features: roof covering, deck attachment, roof-to-wall connections, secondary water resistance and more. Carriers use it to apply premium credits. A new roof built the right way can change several answers on that form.

What is My Safe Florida Home?

A state program that has offered free wind mitigation inspections and matching grants for hardening eligible homes, including roof work. Funding opens in rounds and eligibility rules change, so check the program’s current status before you plan around it. We will point you to it and provide the documentation it requires.
